A Dangerous World

Editorial Booklet on a Podcast Narrative

CHALLENGE

This assignment focused on creating a narrative deliverable based on a selected podcast transcript. I chose a podcast discussing the history of the leprosy settlement on Kalaupapa Peninsula, where individuals diagnosed with the disease were isolated from their families and communities. The challenge was to translate an emotional audio story into a physical book format while maintaining the gravity of the subject. Through typography, pacing, and layout, the goal was to communicate the experiences of fear, loneliness, and resilience felt by those who lived on the island.

APPROACH

My approach focused on creating a restrained and somber visual tone that respected the seriousness of the narrative. I used a limited color palette with darker tones to reflect isolation, uncertainty, and emotional weight. Typography and spacing were carefully considered to control pacing, allowing the reader to absorb the story gradually. The design emphasizes clarity and reflection, supporting the voices of those affected while allowing the narrative to remain the central focus.
